Mapping on MediaWiki, meaning the embedding of, and interaction with, rich and dynamic maps in articles, is done primary via the Maps extension. Another extension, Semantic Maps allows you to aggregate and display structured information on such maps, using the Semantic MediaWiki engine. This wiki contains detailed information on how to use these extensions to enrich your articles, as well as all the information you need to set up and configure them as a wiki administrator.
